Introduction to Giles de Maré Wine Selection Since 1992 I have been offering an intentionally small selection of good quality, authentic wines at reasonable prices to private customers in Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset. The wines come from independent producers determined to make excellent wines reflecting their region and "terroir". In addition I search out for my private customers finer wines, some of which appear in the Selection and under Special Wines. I make no excuses for favouring French wines. Perhaps it is because of my traditional wine trade background but certainly because of the the quality:price ratio to be found in France. I started my career in 1966 doing a "stage" with my Sichel cousins on the Quai de Bacalan in Bordeaux, before joining the City wine merchants, Greens of the Royal Exchange and subsequently the wine department of John Harvey and Sons in Bristol and Pall Mall. During the late 1970's and 1980's I specialised in Bordeaux wines working for two Bordeaux negoçiants, A. Delor et Cie, and subsequently Vintex S.A. I was also U.K. agent for Champagne Jeanmaire. Terms. Prices include vat at 20% and local delivery within 20 miles or so. The minimum order delivered is 12 bottles which may be mixed. The prices already include a 5% net discount off the 1-11 bottle order price. Payment is requested on receipt of invoice or soon thereafter, please.
